Aims
The major aims to:
- Establish knowledge of events and developments in Medieval and Early Modern History
- Introduce students to a range of secondary and primary readings, ranging from written texts and visuals, connected to Medieval and Early Modern History
- Develop the skills to think critically and evaluate ideas in connection with events, developments and historiographies of Medieval and Early Modern History
- Develop both written and oral communication skills in relation to Medieval and Early Modern History
- Develop the ability to work in groups and as individuals to meet deadlines in class and on assessments in connection with Medieval and Early Modern History
Learning outcomes
On completion students will be able to:
1.
Demonstrate a critical and comparative knowledge and understanding of a variety of events and developments in Medieval and Early Modern History
2.
Analyse a range of secondary reading, assessing the value of this material in terms of argument and research
3.
Analyse a wide range of primary sources, texts and visuals, and determine their contexts and value
4.
Develop the ability to use content knowledge to plan, analyse, think critically, reflect upon and evaluate ideas, options and decisions and be able to convey and communicate these
5.
Demonstrate an awareness of ethical issues related to the field of Medieval and Early Modern History
6.
Apply effective oral and written communication skills so as to write and present properly structured, clearly argued, fluently expressed essays and oral presentations across a variety of genres, from research, argumentative and reflective communications
7.
Exchange and debate ideas with other members of the class and with the tutor with the utmost integrity and respect
8.
Work regularly, independently and collaboratively to meet the prescribed deadlines and activities
