Aims

The major aims to:

  • Educate students in the knowledge and skills required to analyse gender and related categories of difference
  • Prepare students to identify and challenge injustice and exploitative social and cultural gender norms in local and international contexts
  • Foster self-reflexive and ethical approaches to all areas of life, including education and professional contexts.

Learning outcomes

On completion students will be able to:

Apply basic concepts and vocabulary of the interdisciplinary area of Women's and Gender Studies across multiple contexts
2.
Explain the social, political and cultural meanings of gender and its interrelation with other differences
3.
Apply Women's and Gender Studies interdisciplinary frameworks and feminist theories to a range of key areas of investigation
4.
Evaluate their own social and cultural position with respect to gender and related differences, with an enhanced ethical sense of gendered power relations
