To qualify for the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice / Bachelor of International Relations and Political Science a student must complete 198 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic according to the program of study below with a:

• Laws and Legal Practice component of 135 units

• International Relations and Political Science component of 63 units, according to the program of study below

Not all topics are necessarily available each year.

Students who commence, but subsequently do not wish to complete the combined degrees program may be eligible to transfer to either the  Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice or the Bachelor of International Relations and Political Science and receive credit for some or all of the topics already completed in the relevant component.

1. This Program of Study serves as a suggested study plan.  When core topics are offered in both halves of the year, students may enrol in these topics in either half of the year as long as requisites are met.

2. POLI2026 Research Methods in Political Science is required for students undertaking an honours entry course.

3. If students wish to choose a 9 unit internship or practicum from the list of Year 3 option topics (International Relations and Political Science component) then only 13.5 units of the following topics should be selected:

• GOVT3001 Critical Approaches to International Relations
• GOVT3002 Digital Governance, Cyber Security & the Future of Democracy
• GOVT3004 Capstone: Global Challenges and Political Change
• INTR3001 Australian Foreign Policy

The course has inherent requirements in the areas of:

• Communication skills
• Motor skills
• Intellectual, conceptual, integrative and quantitative abilities
• Behavioural and social skills

International Student English Language Requirements

Graduates of this course satisfy both the academic and practical requirements for admission as as a barrister and solicitor in the State of South Australia.

Admission to practice in other Australian States and Territories is normally possible but is formally subject to the requirements in place in those jurisdictions.
