Overview

The Bachelor of Performance (Directing) is a rigorous, intellectually stimulating and practically oriented program of study that prepares students for careers in leadership roles in in theatre, film, television, and digital media. The program conceives the role of the director as the leading collaborative storyteller of dramatic narratives, shaping the dynamic interplay between text, performer, space, and audience. It brings together practical training in acting and directing with a grounding in dramatic history, theory, and criticism, through which students develop intellectual rigour, commitment to craft, ethical practices, artistic inquiry, and self-reflection. Graduates are empowered to work with actors, designers, and other creative professionals to bring their vision to life.

Aims

The Bachelor of Performance (Directing) aims to produce cultural leaders who can work in leadership roles across stage, screen, and digital platforms. The program is designed to equip students with the collaborative creative skills and reflective processes required to lead the development of evolution of this industry. We aim to graduate thoughtful directors who understand the theatrical past so that they can shape the future of performance.

Student progression rules

The award of a grade of Fail (F) on more than one occasion in the same topic, may constitute prima facie evidence of unsatisfactory progress for the purposes of the University's Policy on Student Progress.
