Aims
The course aims to:
- Build students’ knowledge and understanding of the interactions between society and individuals’ lives
- Introduce students to frameworks that support culturally competent ethical practice
- Develop students’ knowledge of the role of human service organisations in working with vulnerable people
- Encourage students to focus their studies on the social groups and social issues of particular interest to them
- Equip students with a range of professional attributes, academic and practice skills sought by employers in health and human services
- Provide an employment related qualification in human service organisations working with vulnerable people
- Satisfy accreditation requirements for prior studies in social sciences as a condition of entry to MSW(GE)
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course you will be able to:

Use diverse data and social theories to explain historical and contemporary social issues in Australia and globally.
2.
Critically analyse the role of health and human services in working with vulnerable people
3.
Employ contemporary knowledge, ethical and cultural understandings to work with vulnerable people in a range of health and human service settings
4.
Reflexively evaluate independent judgements about individuals in society towards provision of ethical professional practice
5.
Demonstrate accountability and integrity of value toward their responsibilities in working with vulnerable populations and individuals
6.
Apply high level academic research, writing and presentation skills
