Aims
This topic will require students to apply concepts of the governance and management of ICT projects and organisations, with particular emphasis on analysing large industry, complex, and/or interdisciplinary projects. It includes application of the management frameworks, the tools used and challenges faced, in contemporary ICT operations and modern industry programs through project-based work. Professional standards including those expected by professional bodies are also covered.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Apply the business, culture and management of ICT and technological organisations, and the project life cycle

Synthesise the nature of ICT projects and the manner in which they are initiated, planned and managed
3.
Appraise the impact of quality, cost and timeliness in project performance
4.
Consider the responsibilities, roles, attitudes, values, priorities, judgement and work methods of practising professional ICT managers and be able to enact the ACS Code of Professional Conduct
5.
Gather and analyse information and data to determine the principal internal and external issues affecting ICT governance, management and practice
6.
Communicate with project stakeholders effectively and professionally
7.
Critically review the relevant literature or data to identify a key project management issue, and take the first steps to analyse and resolve the issue

Topic Assumes an introductory understanding of ICT business practices. An introduction to ICT such as can be obtained in ENGR1401 Professional Skills. An understanding of the technical aspects of computing, such as can be obtained by completing a substantial part of the first 2 years of a computing course.
