Aims
This topic aims to:
- Cultivate preservice teachers’ knowledge, understanding, empathy, confidence and courage to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for diverse young people in a range of educational communities
- Introduce preservice teachers to holistic, relational and trauma‐sensitive social and emotional wellbeing pedagogies that are inclusive of a range of students and can be embedded in classroom practice
- Prepare preservice teachers to work collaboratively with professional colleagues, families and students to optimise mental health and wellbeing for children and young people in educational settings
- Equip preservice teachers with the skills of reflective practice
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Appraise contemporary research and practices related to fostering wellbeing and positive mental health across educational contexts
2.
Examine social and emotional wellbeing approaches suitable and accessible for students with diverse needs, including those with a disability, learning difficulty, trauma background or with specific cultural needs
3.
Discuss the importance of matching chosen approaches to student needs and site contexts
4.
Evaluate a social and emotional wellbeing program and its appropriateness for a range of students
