Aims
This topic aims for students to:
- Become critically literate practitioners and to be aware of the contestable nature of both History and Geography
- Explore the relationships of people with natural and built environments
- Engage with some key pedagogical approaches such as inquiry and problem based learning, that encourage school students to engage critically with information
- Develop an understanding of the different tools for assessing learning in History and Geography
- Work collaboratively as they plan units of work for teaching
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Create a relevant and engaging unit plan for teaching a contemporary Historical or Geographical issue while on your final Professional Teaching Practice
2.
Demonstrate an understanding of the contestable nature of History and Geography and the consequent challenges in planning a unit of work
3.
Recognise the need to foster in students the understanding and capacity to take action for a better world for all
4.
Plan to assess and record student learning and use this data for exploring reporting strategies and approaches
5.
Demonstrate a capacity to work collaboratively to achieve a common purpose through group discussions and presentations
