Aims
This topic aims to:
- Prepare preservice teachers with contemporary understanding of numeracy and its application in teaching areas
- Investigate strategies to effectively teach numeracy in secondary schools
- Critique the purpose and impact of high stakes assessment both in Australia and internationally
- Interrogate student assessment data and modify teaching to support learning
- Explore a range of strategies for reporting to students and parents/caregivers
- Promote the importance of keeping accurate and reliable records of student achievement and develop strategies for clear and ongoing communication with parents/caregivers
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Synthesise research about contemporary numeracy issues in secondary schooling

Create effective learning experiences that incorporate numeracy in a learning area
