Aims
The primary educational aim of this micro-credential is to provide students with the theoretical and practical training necessary for conducting archaeology under water and undertaking work as a diving archaeologists or scientific diver.
It also aims to:
- Introduce students to the basics of underwater techniques for archaeology and marine science
- Present students with opportunities to apply their practical and interpretive skills during problem-solving exercises
- Provide students with a certification that aligns to recognised standards for industry recognition
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Apply compliance and safety requirements to undertake scientific diving per Australian Standard AS2299.2 and AS2815.6
2.
Minimise their impact on the underwater cultural heritage and environment through improved diving skills and proper control of buoyancy, stability and trim
3.
Discuss the process of conducting underwater archaeology and marine science as a Scientific Diver in line with Australian Standard AS2815.6 with a basic level of understanding
4.
Apply the practical and theoretical skills for scientific diving per AS2815.6, and to future research and educational projects per AS2299.2
5.
Distinguish Scientific Diver training from Recreational and Commercial diver training pathways
