This topic aims to introduce language students to the language learning process from theoretical points of view, in order to equip them with the skills required for successful language learning at university level. The topic familiarises students with the basic principles of Second Language Acquisition, discusses personal learning styles as well as the implementation of language learning strategies in relation to speaking, writing, listening and reading. It also explores practical issues such as practising a language outside of the classroom, living and studying overseas and employment prospects for language students. While studying in the topic, students will be able to monitor their progress in the language classroom over a semester through a language learning portfolio.
