Aims

This topic aims to:

  • Introduce students to the Modern Greek language through systematic and progressive reading, writing and listening activities
  • Develop students' oral skills in order to communicate in an elementary way on everyday-life topics
  • Introduce students to a selective historical and cultural perspective of Greece
  • Encourage students to develop critical skills through cross-cultural and cross-linguistic approaches

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Identify basic information from short, simple written texts and spoken passages in Modern Greek, for different personal and social contexts
2.
Use basic Modern Greek to produce original texts in speech and in writing, in a range of personal and social contexts
3.
Use a range of basic grammatical and syntactical structures and vocabulary through interpretation in Modern Greek
4.
Apply basic features of Greek culture, as they are expressed through language: holidays, social etiquette, gestures, formal occasions, etc.
