Handbook

This topic will build on the basic fundamental principles of human genetics, and further develop students' understanding and application of these principles. Areas covered will include current research into the genetic basis of complex disease, novel mechanisms of genetic disease, the application of latest technologies in both genetic diagnostics and medical research, and further study of how sequencing the human genome has advanced our understanding of human pathophysiology and treatment regimes. These areas will be set within a framework of specific body systems and diseases, and the topic will include lectures from several experts in different areas of human genetics. This topic will provide students who wish to pursue careers in medicine, medical research, or related fields, with a level of understanding of human genetics which is now required in this post-genome era.
