Aims

This topic aims to:

  • Apply the principles of clinical nutrition care as an intervention to assist in the management of a range of paediatric and adult clinical conditions
  • Encourage students to further develop their skills in independent learning, critical thinking, communication and collaboration

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Demonstrate a mastery of knowledge of the pathophysiology, clinical features and relevant medical and nutritional management of common clinical conditions in paediatric and adult clients where dietetic intervention is important
2.
Demonstrate a mastery of the scientific rationale and principles of clinical nutrition care in a range of paediatric and adult clinical conditions and apply this knowledge to manage clients with the relevant clinical conditions
3.
Demonstrate clinical reasoning in the application and documentation of the Nutrition Care Process (assessment, implementation, evaluation and documentation) that underpins safe and effective dietetic practice for complex case management
4.
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of nutritional and food products available in Australia, and their application in the management of specific clinical conditions
5.
Demonstrate application and translation of knowledge and clinical reasoning in case studies and simulated patient interaction/s for a range of paediatric and adult clients
