Aims
The aims of the topic are to:
- Introduce students to some of the main ophthalmic diseases, their pathophysiology and management
- Apply and integrate knowledge of ocular anatomy and visual science, to optometry practice and clinical reasoning
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Integrate your knowledge of anatomy and physiology and the development and ageing processes within the eye to the underlying pathophysiology of vision disorders and ocular disease processes
2.
Appraise the clinical evidence for practice and formulate an appropriate and justifiable optometric management plan for ocular diseases and vision disorders
3.
Discuss and develop strategies for communication with your patients and other health professionals to explain your findings and management of ocular disease
4.
Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of therapeutic agents in managing ocular diseases
5.
Analyse how one’s own worldview and positioning can impact on health care delivery and outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients
