Aims
In this topic:
- Students will learn the theory and practical skills of individual clinical techniques for assessing vision and ocular health
- Students will begin to develop an understanding of an optometric consultation and the necessary communication skills through observing and performing examinations
- Students will begin to learn how to synthesize clinical information in order to manage patient's visual anomalies
- Students will begin to gain an understanding of the scope of clinical practice
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Obtain a case history and develop effective communication
2.
Test visual acuity and visual function
3.
Detect and correct refractive errors with spectacles
4.
Examine the health of the eye with specific optometric instruments
5.
Begin to synthesize clinical information obtained through examination and develop action plans to assess and rectify anomalies
