Aims

This topic aims to enable students to develop graduate level proficiency in constructing and conducting full patient examinations and be able to propose appropriate management plans. This topic aims to empower students to engage broadly in optometric practice, and manage the spectrum of eye and vision disorders. 

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Design and enact a comprehensive eye examination - appraise the results of each investigation and modify the examination accordingly
2.
Construct and critically appraise a clinical case detailing a professionally and clinically challenging scenario
3.
Assess the spectrum of eye and vision disorders, detailing how the pathophysiology of disease informs evidence-based treatment
4.
Rationalise an appropriate management plan for patients presenting with various complex eye and vision disorders citing evidence-based recommendations, and communicate these clearly and effectively to the patient

Assumed knowledge

The first three years of the Bachelor of Medical Science (Vision Science), Master of Optometry as well as content such as can be obtained in OPTO8001 Knowledge of Health and Illness for Optometrists 2, OPTO8002 Optometry 1 and OPTO8003 Clincial Skills for Optomtrists 2.
