Overview
Polymer Science and Technology is a multidisciplinary topic. The topic will teach basic concepts of polymer physics, polymer chemistry, and polymer property and characterization techniques. In addition to the introduction of classic polymer theories, the topic will also introduce recently developed synthetic techniques and high-tech applications in health, energy, and … For more content click the Read More button below.

Aims
This topic aims to provide students with an appreciation of polymer science and to teach students what are polymers, how polymers are formed, how the molecular weight develops and how the mechanical properties influence the real-world behaviour of these materials. This topic will contribute to graduate student attributes through into the synthetic mechanisms as well as applications.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Demonstrate a capability to communicate basic elements of polymer science, including the concepts, types of polymers, configuration, conformation, chain structures, and molecular weights of polymers
2.
Demonstrate a capability of applying different types of polymerization techniques to design and predict desired polymer structures.
3.
Demonstrate a capability to predict and explain polymers' physical and mechanical properties characterized by various techniques
4.
Carry out basic polymer synthesis safely and independently in a laboratory and examine and characterize the materials produced
5.
Communicate results of experiments in written and oral forms, as required
