Aims

This topic aims to give students the opportunity to:

  • Gain exposure to a range of methodologies and critical approaches relevant to curated and open-access festivals
  • Critically evaluate festivals in local, national and international contexts
  • Interrogate the role and function festival directors and curators with respect to festival programming and implementation
  • Develop a deeper understanding of and sensitivity to the cultural, political and economic dimensions of festivals
  • Acquire in-depth knowledge about the workings of a particular festival
