Aims
This topic aims to:
- Introduce pre‐service teachers to the Australian Curriculum: English, Literacy as a General Capability and literacies as embedded in the everyday practices of primary students
- Explore current research around reading, comprehending and producing texts multi‐modally
- Develop pre‐service teachers’ pedagogical practices to guide the teaching of reading and writing in contemporary primary classrooms
- Develop pre‐service teachers’ capacity to know and sequence curriculum content in English and literacy
- Introduce current practices and debates around literacy assessment
- Cultivate socially just approaches to teaching English and literacy, and consider the expectations of community (i.e. parents and carers)
