Aims
This topic aims to:
- Assist pre‐service teachers to develop an understanding of the social construction of families and childhoods
- Introduce pre‐service teachers to the concept of family‐centred, strengths‐based practice in early childhood settings
- Enable pre‐service teachers to critically analyse a wide variety of resources and approaches for working in partnership with families to enhance learning opportunities for young children, including those with special rights

Elaborate upon how educators gather, form and critique knowledge of families and childhoods

Discuss the contemporary issues affecting families and young children and the implications these have for early childhood educators working within an equity and social justice framework
