Aims
This topic aims to give students an understanding of machine kinematics, dynamics and vibration, and to introduce students to the machine/mechanism design process.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Analyse and design mechanisms as a part of the simple or complex mechanical machine
2.
Understand and perform motion analysis in machinery including identification of the instantaneous centers of rotation and calculations of velocity, acceleration, and forces within mechanisms
3.
Understand, analyse and design cam systems
4.
Understand analyse, and design gear, belt, and chain drives including screw mechanisms
5.
Understand and analyse single and multi-degree of freedom of vibrational systems including the vibration absorber design
6.
Understand and analyse Distributed Parameter Systems and demonstrate understanding of vibration testing and modelling
