Aims

Structural Engineering includes the analysis and design of members or structures that resist applied loads. It is important for all civil engineers to understand the range of concepts, calculations and procedures used for safe design and construction of a variety of structures. This elective topic builds from content covered in Structural Engineering 1 and Structural Engineering 2, with the focus placed on advanced concepts of concrete structures including time-dependent behaviour of concrete, prestressed concrete, steel-concrete composites and FRP-concrete composites

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Analyse and design reinforced concrete members considering advanced concepts such as the influence of time-dependent effects on concrete

Analyse and design prestressed concrete slabs and beams

Analyse and design composite steel and concrete structures
