Aims
This topic aims to provide a capstone covering of a wide range of issues relating to sustainable engineering, with a focus on the environmental, economic and social implications of engineering projects. Students will gain an understanding of the complexities and trade-offs in decision-making, including considerations of social equity, quality of life and wellbeing, and assessment of economic and environmental impacts.
This topic is largely project driven with students being presented with problems and needing to formulate cost-effective but environmentally sustainable solutions.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Propose sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions to complex engineering problems
2.
Understand the complexities and trade-offs in developing such solutions, including considerations of social equity, quality of life and wellbeing, and assessment of economic and environmental impacts
3.
Work as a team member in the development of solutions
