Aims

This topic will require students to apply the systems engineering framework for product and technology development through project-based learning. Systems engineering further challenges students to integrate systems engineering with modern engineering practice and professional ethics, along with innovation management in the systems engineering process.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Explain what a system is in an engineering context. Formulate descriptions of systems in their work environment. Comprehend the network-structure of systems
2.
Summarise the reasons for and the application of Ethics principles and Standards in system design
3.
Apply knowledge of systems engineering methods to derive stakeholder requirements. Analyse the system workplace
4.
Compose a system process using modelling techniques and languages
5.
Develop System Architecture(s) and Concepts
6.
Appraise a system for potential vulnerabilities. Assess a system for the potential of emergent system behaviour
7.
Select appropriate System Concept integrating Trade-off Analysis
8.
Optimize the system design. Propose adjustments as necessary
9.
Construct the integrated system
10.
Conduct Verification, Validation and Compliance according to stakeholder requirements
11.
Compose System Test Vectors, Propose System Commissioning and Operations procedures
