Aims
This topic aims for students to move beyond a participatory relationship with outdoor adventure activities to consider and apply the roles and responsibilities of 'leaders'. Students will be provided with the opportunity to:
- Demonstrate safe facilitation of outdoor activities by appropriately preparing and guiding participants
- Apply logistical, leadership and safety responsibilities when leading outdoor activities
- Analyse the broader role of the leader to facilitate learning and promote engagement with outdoor environments through outdoor experiences
- Create a relevant learning experience for groups through leadership in outdoor activities
- Analyse impacts on the environment as a result of individuals and groups participating in outdoor adventure activities and apply ethical and environmental responsibilities in minimizing these impacts
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Safely and effectively plan, deliver and evaluate outdoor experiences for others
2.
Conduct the preparation, facilitation and closure necessary for successfully engaging others in outdoor experiences
3.
Apply an understanding of duty of care when working in outdoor environments and with specific adventure activities
4.
Analyse the responsibility of a leader to participants, other interested parties and the environment when facilitating outdoor adventure activities
5.
Apply personal preparation, participation and camp craft techniques while leading and participating in outdoor adventure activities
