Aims
This topic aims to:
- Develop students' understanding of the ideas that have influenced public policy responses to alcohol and other drug use over time
- Provide students with opportunities to apply these ideas to current alcohol and other drug policies and strategies in Australia and internationally
- Develop students' ability to critically assess and evaluate approaches to health promotion and the prevention of drug-related harm
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Describe commonly used drugs in Australia, their patterns of use, and key determinants of use
2.
Examine key ideas that have informed public health responses to alcohol and other drug use across diverse settings
3.
Critically assess the representation of drug issues in the Australian media and associated implications for policy and practice
4.
Evaluate strategies that have been implemented to reduce drug-related harm and their effectiveness
