Aims
This topic aims to:
- Develop students' skills in academic writing, including referencing and library skills
- Develop and refine students' skills in basic computing and search strategies
- Introduce students to key areas of health research
- Explore concepts of evidence-based practice
- Enable students to become critical consumers of health research
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Understand the research skills required to study successfully at university including the use of word processors spreadsheets and presentation software
2.
Explain the basic principles of evidence-based practice, research methods, causes of disease, treatment/management and economic evaluation in health sciences
3.
Demonstrate ways to address knowledge gaps through assessing database search results for relevance to a defined research question and for learning
4.
Understand and use basic language of research to engage in critical reasoning and communication of research
5.
Understand ethical and academic integrity requirements of conducting a research study
6.
Construct and undertake a small research project and collaboratively communicate and disseminate findings and ideas clearly as part of a team
7.
Demonstrate reflection and incorporation of feedback from peers and educators for learning
8.
Use mathematics and statistics to build support and communicate arguments
