Aims
This topic aims to assist students to:
- Prepare graduates with knowledge and skills in the area of counselling
- Provide opportunities to understand human problems in terms of a person’s developmental stage, and be aware of how personality can impact the counselling process
- Enable graduates to discern differences in identity formation for majority and minority groups in a multi-cultural society, and explore barriers to effective cross-cultural counselling
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Describe and evaluate the theories of personality, development and identity formation, including the implications for counselling practice
2.
Apply counselling theories and practices to client presentations in multicultural demographics
3.
Identify and analyse common issues of maladjustment that might present in counselling practice
4.
Demonstrate the relationships between behaviours and physical and mental health, and the factors influencing health behaviours through application of theory to practice (knowledge translation)
