Aims

This topic aims for students to engage with contemporary leadership theories and the way in which they can be applied in nursing and midwifery in the various health contexts in Australia and other countries.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Describe, explain and critique the differences between leadership and management as they apply to nursing/midwifery
2.
Explain what leadership is and what it is not
3.
Critique the literature on contemporary leadership
4.
Describe leadership for contemporary nursing/midwifery, taking account of their cultural beliefs and experiences
5.
Apply contemporary leadership theories to nursing/midwifery practice
