Aims

This topic aims to:

  • Provide an introduction to the knowledge base in a small number of fields in psychology. This knowledge base can be applied to many fields, not just psychology
  • Empower students to be discerning consumers and analysers of information

The knowledge base is conveyed in substantive lectures and required readings. Core skills will be reinforced. Students will also be involved in current research.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Understand basic psychological principles, ethics, and research methods used to accumulate evidence in psychology

Apply psychological knowledge to conceptualise, analyse, and suggest evidence-based solutions to problems involving human behaviour that are reflexive, culturally appropriate and sensitive to the diversity of individuals

Evaluate the logic and evidence within psychological literature to describe complex relationships between variables
4.
Demonstrate interpersonal skills and teamwork to develop and practice self-management and learning
