Aims

This topic aims to assist students to:

  • Develop specialised knowledge and skills to for working with children and young people who have experienced trauma
  • Students will learn to centred the child and young person as their primary consideration in consideration of their developmental needs, service context and complexity
  • Draw on contemporary theories and knowledge to understand trauma and the impact of trauma

 

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Synthesise contemporary literature and research on understanding trauma and impacts of trauma for children and young people
2.
Synthesise contemporary knowledge about trauma responsive practice for its relevance for working with children and young people
3.
Develop trauma responsive skills to create safe child and young person-centred spaces and professional relationships
4.
Employ reflective and reflexive practice skills to develop self-awareness of the impact of personal biography on practice
5.
Critically analyse contemporary practice context with children and young people to identify systemic and structural factors that contribute to complex trauma
