Overview
This topic will further develop knowledge of tourism research methodology and current practice. Students will be expected to work on a major cultural tourism independent research project, presenting their findings in different forms such as research reports and conference posters.

Aims
This topic aims to:
- Develop the student's critical understanding of tourism research methodology, sources and practice, building on the foundations laid in Introduction to Tourism Research Methods and focussing on current issues in tourism research
- Develop independent research skills and demonstrate the ability to work with comparative and inter-disciplinary material, to develop a framework for a cultural tourism research project and carry out the project. Collaboration with others will be expected and encouraged, as will liaison with industry and/or government
- Provide students with the opportunity to present research findings in different formats, including research reports and conference posters
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Assess the appropriateness of various research methodologies and methods used in your cultural tourism research projects. This will include reflection on the research project process itself as an example of action learning
2.
Complete a research plan on a topic of relevance to one or more cultural tourism industry sectors
3.
Implement and carry out the research plan on the selected topic and present the results of the research in an appropriate manner
4.
Critique the research methodology used in the research project
