Aims
This topic aims to:
- Provide students with practical experience, contacts in the tourism industry and exposure to current practices in the relevant sector of the industry (linked to the project)
- Develop a sound understanding of issues relating to the tourism industry and the needs of the local/regional community
- Enable students to contribute to the development of research materials that can be used by industry partners to help benefit local/regional community members
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Work collaboratively and independently within a professional and suitable environment on a community-based project
2.
Evaluate how a tourism industry/government agency operates, and the challenges faced in relation to community engagement strategies
3.
Effectively communicate with community members and appropriate professionals in the tourism industry
4.
Produce a research project report
5.
Assess challenges associated with developing research projects that primarily focus on community engagement strategies
