Aims
This topic aims to examine physiological changes accompanying ageing, common health issues, health literacy, the social determinants of health and the impact on health status in later life to provide students with the fundamental understanding necessary to support healthy ageing.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Discuss perspectives on health status, healthy ageing and health promotion
2.
Examine differences across the ageing population in health status in relation to gender, culture and geographical location
3.
Differentiate between age-related physical changes and changes in later life resulting from non-normative factors such as disease
4.
Critically analyse and develop strategies for healthy ageing to maximise health status in later life
5.
Investigate the social determinants of health in later life and the impact on health status
6.
Demonstrate skills that underpin a career working with and supporting older people to maximise health and well-being
