Aims

This topic aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to advise on and participate in recruitment and selection activities in a range of organisational contexts.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Describe the nature and strategic importance of human resource planning, recruitment and selection to the achievement of an organisation's business objectives
2.
Perform a job analysis in preparation for filling a vacancy or newly created position
3.
Develop appropriate selection criteria
4.
Design recruitment materials and select appropriate channels to attract staff
5.
Participate in the selection process: shortlisting; interviewing
6.
Identify and explain the value and limitations of psychometric testing
7.
Discuss the importance of committing to equal opportunities
