Aims
This topic aims to expose students to critical concepts and practice of sustainability, ethics, and governance in contemporary business. Students will examine the multidimensional concepts of sustainability, resilience, and corporate social responsibility. To convey how these concepts are applied in practice, students will examine global sustainability guidelines and other practical tools for business sustainability and resilience (e.g., certification programs, policies, codes of conduct). This topic additionally exposes students to concepts, issues, and challenges associated with governance and ethics, which are also relevant to businesses earning the social license to operate.
Collectively, this topic aims to:
- Examine multidimensional concepts of sustainability, resilience, and corporate social responsibility
- Assess triple bottom line business practices
- Assess company alignment with global sustainability guidelines
- Examine ethical theories and ethical issues in the workplace
- Explore diverse governance structures and environmental, sustainability, and governance (ESG) ratings
