Aims

This topic aims to

  • Develop students’ awareness of ethical issues arising when handling complex dialectics in performance in relation to interpretation, context, and visualisation

  • Enable students to apply semiotic analysis to identify potential ethical issues and evolve solutions

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Discuss potential issues of appropriation and cultural representation in legacy theatrical texts and original creative responses
2.
Engage actors in collaborative exploration of a dramatic text in a manner that empowers them to begin devising a creative interpretative response
3.
Develop and deploy a series of protocols to foster a creative and culturally safe working rehearsal room environment
4.
Apply a practical, ethical, and intellectual understanding of semiotic analysis to various tasks
