Aims

This topic aims to:

  • Introduce preservice teachers to inclusive policies, practices and learning environments that embody a strengths‐based approach and empower children, families and local communities
  • Cultivate a foundational understanding of multi‐tiered systems of support (MTSS) as a framework for inclusive and specialised education across academic, social and behavioural domains
  • Encourage the development of critical, creative, reflective and collaborative understandings of teachers’ work with diverse students within a human rights framework
  • Provide preservice teachers with a historical perspective on the education of students with special educational needs
