Aims
This topic aims to:
- Enable pre-service teachers through research and inquiry, to continue to build upon their understanding of how children learn and develop by incorporating theoretical knowledge whilst making a meaningful contribution to the site and children's learning
- Provide pre-service teachers with Early Childhood contexts to use a variety of observation and assessment techniques to gain insight into the types of experiences, activities and ideas which engage young children
- Engage pre-service teachers in the work of planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting a curriculum which involves and engages children in deep and meaningful learning over a sustained period of time
- Provide opportunities for pre-service teachers to establish positive working relationships with colleagues, parents and families as a collaborative and collegiate team member
- Support pre-service teachers in documenting and organising evidence of developing professional knowledge, professional practice and professional relationships
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Plan, implement and evaluate meaningful curriculum-based experiences which use a range of resources and are responsive to the needs and interests of young children with support from the mentor teacher
2.
Formulate an inquiry, based on relevant theory and observations of children’s experiences which sequentially supports and builds upon children’s learning
3.
Practise and analyse an array of accurate, formal and informal methods of observation, assessment and documentation to inform teaching practice
4.
Develop a repertoire of theoretically-informed pedagogical strategies through analysis and reflection upon teaching decisions and approaches
5.
Develop ways of communicating effectively with families about children's learning and development
