Aims
This topic aims to develop in students an advanced and practical understanding of civil design, through studying and applying:
- Methodologies for developing solutions to complex and ill-defined civil engineering design problems
- The integration of theory and methods across the range of civil engineering subjects
- The assessment and evaluation of engineering designs
- Techniques for determining design specifications from clients, eg the social, political, international, economic and environmental context of a problem as well as the technical requirements
- Project management and documentation methods and tools in the civil engineering context
- The variety of roles in civil engineering design groups, eg teamwork, leadership and mentoring
- Creativity, innovation and self-reflection
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
