Aims

This topic aims to give students the opportunity to:

  • Create a visual diary which records ideas which may influence future designs
  • Explore the technology, economics and politics of society to determine how they influenced clothing of a particular era
  • Explore art movements and their impact on historical costume
  • Relate the outcome of students' research to future trends
  • Examine the development and status of Australia in the world of fashion
  • Communicate ideas with their peers and debate theories and solutions

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Identify the items of clothing worn in the past, from particular epochs
2.
Trace garment evolution in terms of contemporary social, economic and political environments
3.
Determine factors which can impact on contemporary garments, including predicting future trends
4.
Discuss aspects relating to the history of the Australian fashion industry and the principle participants
5.
Analyse current designers who have taken influence from historical and ethnic costume, and how it has been reinterpreted in garment design
6.
Communicate ideas and research to others both verbally and in writing, including the use of multimedia
