Aims

This topic aims to introduce students to: 

  • The field of Physical Education and thereby establish the foundations for further study in this area
  • A broad understanding of the philosophical, historical, physiological, sociological, political, educational and pedagogical concepts underlying current practice in Physical Education and its application in school and community settings
  • The links between Physical Education and Health Education
  • Health and Physical Education as a learning area in the Australian Curriculum

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Examine and illustrate the philosophical, historical, physiological, sociological, political, educational and pedagogical concepts underlying current practice in Physical Education
2.
Analyse and relate a range of issues related to the learning and teaching of Physical Education in the community with particular focus on school settings
3.
Apply a range of pedagogical capabilities to design, facilitate and evaluate meaningful physical education experiences
4.
Creatively apply a range of teaching styles to engage diverse learners in Physical Education that is aligned to curriculum outcomes
