Aims
This topic aims to:
- introduce students to the concepts of mental health, mental wellbeing, mental illness, and positive psychology
- develop student appreciation for the macro, meso, and micro-level influences on mental health and wellbeing
- facilitate student understanding of issues related to young people’s mental, emotional, and psychological wellbeing
- foster self-reflexivity and understanding through reflective journaling
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Differentiate between the concepts of mental health, wellbeing, and mental illness using diverse perspectives, including positive psychology, health promotion, and the social determinants of health
2.
Analyse peer-reviewed evidence in the field of youth mental health related to key issues including inclusion, diversity, social and emotional wellbeing, and the online environment
3.
Apply best practice principles to evaluate programs and resources that seek to promote and improve young people’s mental health and wellbeing
4.
Develop thoughtful recommendations for future professional practice through reflexive enquiry
