Aims
This topic aims to develop skills in Health Sciences students to be effective and holistic practitioners, who are also advocates for best practice when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Identify and critique deficit-based, othering, and racist language used to construct discourses of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and health
2.
Apply strengths-based approaches to provision of health services with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
3.
Use a strengths-based and respectful vocabulary when discussing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, cultures, and health
4.
Identify and critically discuss Australian social systems and structures which create and maintain health inequities impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
5.
Describe cultural safety and its role in person-centred health care when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People
6.
Apply cultural capabilities within a cultural safety framework
