Aims

The aim of this topic is to:   

  • Support students to gain the requisite knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to succeed in both the academic and clinical practice aspects of the Bachelor of Midwifery program

Learning outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Demonstrate an understanding of the professional role of the midwife including relevant professional, legal, regulatory, and ethical codes and standards including ethical use of digital technologies
2.
Apply the skills of critical thinking and reflexivity to examine the role of the midwife and midwifery care as both an art and a science
3.
Describe the philosophical underpinnings of midwifery practice and apply the principles of woman-centred care, informed decision making and partnership in theoretical contexts
4.
Demonstrate interpersonal and communicative skills to provide holistic and woman-centred midwifery care
5.
Demonstrate basic knowledge and application of evidence-based practice
