Aims
This topic aims to enable students to develop a sound theoretical knowledge of women’s health issues across the life course and the importance of diet and nutrition for optimal health of the woman and baby.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of women’s sexual and reproductive health from pre-menarche to post-menopause
2.
Describe the midwife’s public health role in promoting and improving women’s sexual and reproductive health
3.
Demonstrate an understanding of ethical and legal issues relating to sexual and reproductive health
4.
Describe the importance of diet and nutrition across a woman’s lifespan with specific focus on the childbearing years
5.
Discuss the importance of early nutrition for the neonate including the benefits of breastfeeding, and the implications for lifelong health
