Aims
The aim of this topic is to:
- Prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and attributes to care for women and babies with complex needs across antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal and neonatal periods, in all settings
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
1.
Identify and appropriately respond to deviations from normal in the provision of midwifery care
2.
Demonstrate a novice-level ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care for women and their babies with complex needs across the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods while maintaining a woman-centred approach
3.
Apply knowledge of research evidence, clinical sciences, and pharmacology
4.
Identify and interpret guidelines, policy, and legislation in relation to midwifery practice when caring for the woman, fetus, and neonate with complex needs
5.
Describe the investigations and diagnostic tests that may be offered to women and neonates with complexities
6.
Identify and explain the need to escalate, consult with and where indicated, refer to the multidisciplinary team in response to clinical concerns
