Aims
The aim of this topic is to:
- Enable students to understand the distribution of health and illness across the Australian health context and the impact of the social and cultural determinants of health
- Explore psychological and sociological perspectives to inform evidence-based nursing care
- Reflect on personal assumptions and biases and recognise personal strengths to develop and define caring behaviours
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Examine the impact of the Social Determinants of Health in the context of local, national, and global health priorities, considering both Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations
2.
Determine psychological, sociological and lifespan factors that influence a person’s experience of health issues and contexts
3.
Critically discuss psychological and sociological perspectives to inform the fundamentals of care
4.
Examine how the psychosocial perspectives of health assist people to make sense of their own beliefs and values
