Aims
The aim of this topic is to provide students with an understanding of the role of occupational therapy within diverse community settings across the lifespan. Through this topic, students will refine their therapeutic communication skills for effective engagement with individuals and families across the lifespan and with a range of conditions. Students will develop skills in addressing community needs at a population level, thereby supporting their own capacity to contribute meaningfully to community well-being through occupational therapy practice.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Examine the interpersonal traits, therapeutic modes, skills and knowledge required when providing an occupational therapy service to people with disabilities and health conditions and their families
2.
Demonstrate therapeutic communication skills to support clients across the lifespan and within a range of practice settings
3.
Demonstrate practicing in a culturally responsive manner through the application of occupational therapy case scenarios
4.
Apply community development principles to population level needs
5.
Apply reflective practice skills to analyse and consider the needs of people accessing occupational therapy services
